What Is Vaillant Advance? Accredited Installers and Your Warranty

Vaillant Advance is Vaillant's scheme for installers. It does not make fitting legal (Gas Safe does), but on many models it decides whether you get the standard or a longer warranty. Here is what it means for a new boiler and how to check it.
Vaillant Advance is Vaillant's own membership scheme for installers who fit its boilers. It is not a warranty and not a safety qualification. What it changes for you as a homeowner is the warranty on offer: on many Vaillant models, a longer warranty is only available when the boiler is fitted and registered by an installer in the scheme. Anyone else who is Gas Safe registered can legally fit the same boiler, but you would usually get Vaillant's standard warranty instead of the extended one.
What is Vaillant Advance?
Vaillant Advance is a trade scheme that Vaillant runs for heating installers. Members register the boilers they fit with Vaillant, and in return they can offer customers the longer warranties Vaillant keeps for its accredited installers.
Most big boiler makers run something similar under their own name. Worcester Bosch, for example, has its Accredited Installer scheme, and other manufacturers have their own approved or accredited installer programmes. The idea is the same in each case. The manufacturer offers a longer warranty when a member fits the boiler, because it has a direct relationship with that member, a record of the installation and a way to follow up if the work is poor.
Schemes like this also carry commercial benefits for the installer from the manufacturer. That is one reason an installer who belongs to one brand's scheme tends to recommend that brand. It does not make the advice wrong, but it is worth knowing when a quote only ever offers one make.
Does a Vaillant Advance installer get you a longer warranty?
Usually, yes, on eligible models. Vaillant sets a standard warranty for any installation by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and longer terms on selected boilers when the installer is a member of its scheme.
The length depends on the exact model and changes over time, which is why this guide does not quote a figure. A premium boiler such as an ecoTEC exclusive may carry a different term from an entry-level ecoFIT pure, even from the same installer. Our guide to choosing between the Vaillant ranges explains how the ranges differ. Whatever the brochure says, the warranty that counts is the one written on your quote next to the model number. If one installer offers a longer Vaillant warranty than another for the same boiler, the difference is usually scheme membership, not generosity.
What conditions come with an extended warranty?
Extended manufacturer warranties come with conditions. The usual ones are registration within a set time after fitting, a completed Benchmark checklist, and a service every year by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
Many manufacturers also expect the heating system to be cleaned and treated when the new boiler goes in, often with a magnetic filter fitted, because sludge is one of the main causes of early failure. Check the current terms for your model on the manufacturer's website, and ask the installer to confirm in writing that:
- They will register the boiler with Vaillant under their membership and send you the confirmation.
- The warranty length on the quote matches the exact model and output being fitted.
- The system clean and filter the terms require are included in the price, not left as optional extras.
- The Benchmark checklist will be completed and left with you on the day.
The annual service normally has to be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer. It does not always have to be the company that fitted the boiler, but read the wording, because terms differ between manufacturers. For what voids a warranty and how transfers work when you sell, see our guide to how long a new boiler warranty lasts.
How do you check if an installer is really in the scheme?
Ask for their membership details and check them yourself on Vaillant's own website, which has a search for accredited installers. Do the same with the Gas Safe Register, which is a separate check.
A logo on a van or website is not proof. Membership can lapse, and a company can be in one manufacturer's scheme but not another's. If the quote promises an extended Vaillant warranty, the installer should be happy to show you where they appear on Vaillant's search. Check the Gas Safe Register separately too: the engineer who actually does the work must be on it and qualified for the type of gas work involved. By law, only a Gas Safe registered engineer can install a gas boiler. Membership of a manufacturer's scheme does not replace that, and a scheme member who is not Gas Safe registered cannot legally fit your boiler.
Is Vaillant Advance a sign of a better installer?
Partly. It shows the installer fits enough Vaillant boilers to join the scheme and that Vaillant has a record of their work. It does not guarantee the boiler is the right size, or that the pipework, flue and controls will be done well.
Most problems with new boilers come from the installation rather than the boiler. Common ones are an oversized combi that short-cycles, a condensate pipe run where it will freeze, or a boiler fitted into a dirty system with no clean. A scheme member can make those mistakes as easily as anyone else. So judge the quote on its detail. Does it say how the output was worked out from a room-by-room heat loss, rather than copied from the old boiler? Does it list the system clean, filter, controls, flue and removal of the old boiler? Our checklist for comparing boiler quotes sets out what a full quote should contain.
When is a Vaillant Advance installer the wrong thing to focus on?
When it narrows the choice before the basic questions are answered. The right boiler type and size for your home matters more than which manufacturer's scheme the installer belongs to.
If a Vaillant is not the best match for your home, a longer Vaillant warranty does not make it one. That might be because you need a different boiler type, or because another brand's model suits your cupboard or budget better. Likewise, if the extended warranty depends on conditions you will not keep, such as an annual service you tend to skip, you will not get its value. A standard warranty on a well-sized boiler in a clean system is often the better buy.
What should you ask before you sign?
Ask four things: which exact model and output is quoted, what warranty comes with it and why, who registers it, and what the terms require from you.
Getting those answers in writing turns a vague promise of a "long warranty" into something you can check. If two quotes for the same Vaillant boiler show different warranty lengths, ask each installer to explain the difference. Membership of Vaillant Advance is usually the honest answer. Frequently asked questions
Do you need a Vaillant Advance installer to fit a Vaillant boiler?
No. Any Gas Safe registered engineer can legally install a Vaillant gas boiler. Vaillant Advance membership matters because the longer warranties Vaillant offers on selected models are usually only available when a scheme member fits and registers the boiler.
Is Vaillant Advance the same as Gas Safe registration?
No. Gas Safe registration is the legal requirement for anyone doing gas work in the UK. Vaillant Advance is Vaillant's voluntary scheme for installers of its boilers. An installer can be in both, and should be Gas Safe registered whatever else they belong to.
Does my boiler have to be serviced by the installer who fitted it?
Usually not. Warranty terms normally ask for a service every year by a Gas Safe registered engineer and a record in the Benchmark checklist, not a service by the original installer. Read the terms for your model, because wording varies between manufacturers.
